What’s Included

What’s included

Three full days of live outdoor instruction (roughly 20+ hours total), plus a 3–4 hour Zoom session before we meet in Florence (recording available).

The workshop fee covers instruction only — travel, accommodation, meals, and materials are not included.

Online session (Zoom) — Saturday, April 18

As part of the workshop, we’ll start with a Zoom session: a short intro, materials overview, and a studio demo. It makes day one in Florence more productive — more time painting, less time figuring things out.  If you can’t join live, you’ll be able to watch the recording later.

This workshop will fit you if:

  • You want a clear structure: morning demo, afternoon painting and daily individual instructions.
  • You’re ready for full painting days outdoors
  • You want feedback that’s practical and precise, not abstract.
  • Starting with a Zoom prep session (Apr 18) sounds useful to you

It won’t suit you if:

  • You want an indoor class or a fixed studio environment.
  • You need the same setup and the same spot every day.
  • You prefer no demos, no feedback, fully independent painting

Workshop price: $690 USD

Charged in your local currency at checkout.

Absolutely! This workshop is designed to accommodate beginners. You’ll receive step-by-step guidance, live demonstrations, and personalized feedback to help you feel confident throughout the process.

Where will we be painting?

We’ll visit up to three stunning locations within Florence’s historic city center. These may include landscapes featuring the Arno River and iconic Florentine architecture. Exact spots will be announced closer to the date, depending on weather and lighting conditions.

Do I need to bring my own materials?

Yes, you’ll need to bring your own materials. The material list can be downloaded here

Can I paint with acrylic, watercolor, etc.?

We will focus exclusively on creating oil paintings en plein air. The material list can be downloaded here.

What language is the workshop conducted in?

The workshop is conducted in English. I also speak Ukrainian, Russian, and conversational Italian, so I can assist participants in these languages if needed.

How does the online Zoom session work?

We’ll start with a Zoom session on Saturday, April 18 (materials overview, approach, and a studio demo). The goal is to make the first day in Florence as productive as possible, so we spend more time painting outdoors and less time figuring things out. A recording will be available if you can’t attend live or want to revisit it later.

What if it rains?

We’ll adjust the schedule and painting locations as needed to accommodate weather conditions. Florence offers plenty of sheltered spots that are perfect for plein air painting.

Where should I stay in Florence?

Participants are responsible for their own accommodations. I recommend booking accommodations in the historic city center so all our painting locations are easily reachable on foot or by city bus. Both Airbnb and Booking.com offer great options for places to stay in Florence.

How do I get to Florence?

Florence has Amerigo Vespucci Airport (FLR), which is easily accessible by public transport to the city center. Alternatively, Pisa Airport (PSA) and Bologna Airport (BLQ) are well-connected to Florence by shuttle bus.

About Me

Hi, I’m Andrii Kateryniuk, and I’ll be guiding you through this 5-day plein air painting journey in Florence. As an artist deeply passionate about capturing the world en plein air, I believe there’s no better way to sharpen your skills and connect with your surroundings.

During the early stages of my career, plein air painting was my main art practice. It taught me invaluable lessons about color, light, and composition, and how to approach various subjects with confidence. Most importantly, it helped me develop the ability to make quick, decisive choices—an essential skill for any artist.

Having come from a studio-based background, I found plein air painting to be a refreshing and challenging way to grow as an artist. It pushes you to respond to the ever-changing environment and capture the essence of a scene in the moment. That experience shaped my artistic voice, and I’m excited to share these insights with you as we explore the stunning landscapes and architecture of Florence.
